10 Amazing Things About Disney World!
Since its opening in October 1, 1971, guests from all over the world flock to the cities of Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake in Florida to visit the “Happiest Place on Earth”, Disney World! That’s right, while their official mailing address is Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, FL, 32830, Disney World is not officially located within the city of Orlando. Amazing huh? In this post we are going to learn some even more amazing things about Disney World!
Are We There Yet?
Approximately 53 million people visit the four theme parks in Walt Disney World Resort every year! That’s more people than the population of the country of Colombia!
Let’s Go Solar!
Coming soon to a location near Animal Kingdom, a new solar panel facility will be built. It will have 50,000 solar panels and be able to capture enough of the sun’s energy to power 2 Disney theme parks! Disney already opened a solar power facility near Epcot in 2016 that, combined with this new one, will provide enough clean renewable energy to provide up to 25% of the power needed at Disney World! Plus, it is in the shape of Mickey! How amazing is that?!
Amazing Nighttime Spectacular!
Starting in 2010, with the launch of “The Magic, The Memories & You” on Cinderella Castle, Disney World Live Entertainment has pioneered the use of projection mapping technology on many of its iconic landmarks. On May 12, 2017, the most advanced projection show yet, “Happily Ever After”, debuted on Cinderella’s Castle complete with lasers, fireworks, pyrotechnics, and nostalgia. The show is 18 minutes long and features animations, songs, and characters from some of the most popular Disney movies of all time including Aladdin, Frozen, The Lion King, Toy Story, and The Little Mermaid. Even the most casual Disney World fan will be amazed at this beautiful show as it never leaves a dry eye in the house of the mouse!
Speaking of Fireworks…
Besides the United States military, Disney World is the largest buyer of explosives in the US purchasing an estimated 40 million dollars worth of various fireworks displays for the parks each year!
While there is so much to see in all of the Disney World Parks, there is also so much to eat and drink too! It is estimated that over 3 million Mickey Premium Ice Cream bars are eaten every year! Over 30 tons of fruit and vegetables from “Living with the Land” are consumed by guests dining in The Garden Grill and Sunshine Seasons restaurants at Epcot each year! And more than 75 million Cokes are served on property every year!
Amazing Family Photos!
One of our favorite things about our Disney World trips is being able to get amazingly beautiful and imaginatively fun family photos! It is estimated that Disney Park PhotoPass photographers take up to an estimated 200,000 pictures every year! You can buy Memory Maker and even get some photos sprinkled with a little Disney magic. Or you may ask the photographer to take your photos with your camera free of charge! You can read more about Disney PhotoPass here!
An unofficial event that started in 2011 by guests of Disney World, Dapper Day is usually held twice a year bringing guests of all ages from all over the world together to dress to impress, celebrate Disney, and reminisce about a simpler time.
Star Wars Land!
Opening sometime in 2019, Star Wars Land is set to be the largest, most immersive guest experience in all of Disney World. Guests will be transported to the planet Batuu where they can encounter many characters including Chewbacca, BB-8, and members of the First Order. A marketplace and cantina are being built where guests can shop for unique souvenirs, toys, and drink blue milk just like Luke did in A New Hope. Perhaps the most amazing feature of this new land will be the rides. Guests will be able to climb aboard a Star Destroyer and feel like they are in the middle of a battle between the Resistance and the First Order and fly the Millennium Falcon!
That’s A Lot of Space!
While the Magic Kingdom certainly is a very large place at 107 acres, you could fit the entire park inside of the Kilimanjaro Safari savannah which is 110 acres, with room to spare!
Amazing Cast Members!
While all of things combined does make for an incredible Disney World vacation, what really makes this place special are the amazing Cast Members! Over 70,000 people are employed at Disney World and they are some of the most wonderful people you will ever have a chance to meet. If a Cast Member is exceptional you can recognize them by going to guest relations or by tweeting @WDWToday with your complement and the hashtag #CastComplement.
