6.  It Has a Unique History

Just a stone’s throw away from Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, across Hourglass Lake is Disney’s Pop Century Resort.  Disney’s Pop Century Resort celebrates pop culture from the 1950’s through the 1990’s.  At one time Disney’s Art of Animation Resort was designed to continue the pop century theme and celebrate the 1900’s through the 1940’s.

The resort was being built around the time of September 11, 2001 when the United States suffered a terrible terrorist attack.  Tourism declined for a period of time after this and Disney pushed the pause button on this resort.  Despite the fact that much of the resort had already been built and theming was applied to the outside of buildings, it sat virtually untouched for nearly 10 years.

Eventually, Disney came up with the concept for Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, realizing they had no resorts that celebrated what made guests come to Disney World, the love for their movies!  The rest, as they say is history.  Since it’s opening on May 31, 2012 Disney’s Art of Animation Resort has become a favorite of families from all over the world!

5.  The Drop Off Pool Bar

4.  Speaking Of The Big Blue Pool…

Did you know that the largest resort pool at Walt Disney World Resort is located at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort?  That’s right!  The name says it all!  The Big Blue Pool contains over 308,527 gallons of water!  It has a zero-entry entrance on one end and is themed to the classic Disney-Pixar classic movie Finding Nemo.  Dip your head underwater and you’ll even hear music from your favorite Disney movies!

That’s not all…there are 2 more pools for your family to enjoy!  If you want a little more privacy, check out the two other smaller pools in the resort.  The Flippin’ Fins Pool is located in the Little Mermaid section of the resort and features fun statues of characters from the movie!

The Cozy Cone Pool is located in the Cars section of the resort and is themed to look just like the Cozy Cone motel from the movie!  It even has first-come-first-serve private cabanas for your family to relax in!

3.  What’s That Amazing Scent?

One of the things Disney is amazing at is transforming their guests to another world.  They do this by using things like immersive theming (which we’ll discuss in a moment), background music, and scents.  Stroll down Main Street in Magic Kingdom and you will smell cookies, a burning wood scent as you pass by Rome on Spaceship Earth, and even the smell of a skunk on Journey Into Imagination with Figment!  When guests enter Animation Hall, the lobby for the Art of Animation, they are greeted with a delightful scent!

Disney uses something called smellitizers to essentially “pump” scents into the air.  Some say the lobby smells like mangos, candy, or oranges!  Whatever the official scent is, we can all agree it smells amazing and makes something as mundane as walking through a resort lobby a wonderful experience!

2. Family Suites
