The More the Merrier!
A few days later, my daughter and I had traded all of the pins away that we arrived with. We decided to purchase some more to trade. We were about to leave Town Square Theater after meeting Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse when we saw that one of the cast members had a pin that my daughter liked! We quickly picked up a mystery pin pack at the shop and made our way to the register. When all of a sudden, my husband says, “Wait! I want to get in on pin trading too! You guys are having so much fun!”
He picked up an Up! lanyard and a couple of mystery pin sets. After purchasing the new pins my husband made his first trade! He was hooked from that point on! Our son just observed us over the next couple of days. Maybe he was “too cool” to do pin trading. We’d ask him if he wanted to join in, but he said he was fine.
A couple of days later we were waiting for our FastPass to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. We took shelter from the summer heat in the shops on Sunset Boulevard. We went to browse through the pins at Sunset Ranch Pins and Souvenirs after picking up a couple of drinks at the Anaheim Produce.
We asked our son again if he wanted to pin trade. We could see it in his eyes, he wanted to do it. Finally, he joined in on the fun and he picked up a Star Wars starter set. We bought a few mystery pin sets for him to trade. Before we knew it, we were all on the hunt for cast members with pins!
We made a stop at the Polynesian Village Resort for lunch and drinks. After all, this is our home away from home! We pin traded at the BouTiki (first floor) as they have a pin board. We visited the shops at the BoardWalk Inn and found some cool pins there too! We visited as many shops and kiosks around the Disney parks. Some shops have pin boards that you can spot at the cashier counter and others you have to ask if they have one.
Like I said, we had been to Walt Disney World many times before and we had created many wonderful memories over the years. We’ve chatted with many cast members on those trips, but usually the interactions were quick and not much more than pleasantries. This trip was very different as we met so many wonderful cast members and had really great conversations with many of them. They were so quick to not only educate us on the pins we were collecting, but also how much they loved working in the various parks and how much fun their jobs were.
At Hollywood Studios, my daughter purchased a Toy Story 4 mystery pin pack. To her surprise she got Forky and Rex from Toy Story 4! We saw Toy Story 4 before we went to Walt Disney World and she wanted a Forky plush toy, but Forky had been pulled from stores due to a choking hazard defect with the plush. The Forky pin really made up for it! Every cast member we encountered complimented her on it and asked where she got it!
At the gift shop next to Muppet Vision 3D we asked the cast member if he had a pin board. He said he did, but first you must find the special paintbrush! He said, “When you find it, bring it to me and you will get a surprise!” We finally found the well-hidden paint brush and he showed us a pin board that had a pin my husband loved! It was a nice scavenger hunt for the mystery paintbrush!
At Epcot, we were at the Northwest Mercantile gift shop in Canada. We met a cast member who shared with us details about the pins. Then, we spoke for a really long time about the Disney College Program. She shared her experience with the program and working at the Canada pavilion.
It’s those kinds of interactions you don’t get unless you slow down for a moment and take time to talk to people. These interactions made our trip so special!
All in all, we had an absolutely great time pin trading in all of Walt Disney World! It was a super fun scavenger hunt. We not only learned so much about the world of pin trading, but we met so many great people and that is sure what I will remember about this very special trip! We cannot wait to go back and pin trade again!
